Week 10 - FINISH LINE OR STARTING POINT ???

As this school terms comes to an end, I have asked
review my Creating Wellness class and evaluate my journey.

First, this class...I learned so many lessons
but
the one that stands out, is just how much I still have to learn!!
I am scheduled to graduate in 2015, however, I can assure you this will not be the end of my education.
This class has shown me just how interconnected my body is and the importance of
focus not only on physical health but also spiritual and psychological.

When I first evaluated myself, I thought I was in a healthy state of well-being.
As I have journeyed to a better understanding of true health,
I came to realize that yes, I was not sick
BUT
There is SOOO much more to health!!

I am now packing my integral "black bag".
I am meditating daily to set the mood of the day as well as "clear" my vision.
I have a more positive outlook no matter the "storm".

I am pleased to say my meditations have proven successful!
Last week, I face one of my biggest fears
....AND....
To update my "storm" from last week.
My mom did suffer TIAs and we are unclear as to how many or the lasting damage.
However, she is much better and stable.
She has been given clearance to return to her normal life
with just a few restrictions!!!

Now to my weakest area, my physical health.
During my first evaluation, I felt I was healthy because I was not sick.
This class has taught me that there is much more to health that just the absence of illness.
I will kayak weekly!!!
I am also joining our town's running club...my first walk/run with a group
in over five years...
is Saturday!!!!

As I stated last week I do plan to continue this blog.
I feel if give my a reason to focus on myself.
I am healing my spirit by spending time on me...
This then helps me help those around me.

I am sooo looking forward to our future topics...
I hope you will continue to share, comment, and post your thoughts and ideas...
HERE we go....

  1. You have an elegant way of expressing yourself. I really enjoyed reading your blog. I am sorry to hear of your mothers TIA's. Those are not fun to deal with. My father suffered some late last year while I was doing dialysis at home on him. This was part of the reason he has gone back to the center to do the dialysis even though I wish I could do it at home still.
I hope you enjoy your walk/run. I know I loved doing the Color Me RAD run/walk that I did in May. It was great not only doing it but it pushed me to get ready for it. I struggle in physical so maybe I need to register for another run/walk and then I will push myself to do better.
I also like the idea of continuing the blog. I think that I will do the same. It helps me to be accountable. I will be checking back to your not only for the updates but for the inspiration. You have some great sayings and again you are an eloquent writer.

  2. You have made great progress! Sorry about your mom. My husband's grandmother just had a stroke but luckily she is back in her assisted care facility and doing well. It is so much easier to exercise when you have a support system, so enjoy the run/walk group you have joined. Personally, I would love to do the Color Me Rad race next year. I have friends who are doing it today! Good luck with all your goals for the future!

  3. Congratulations on all the great things you are doing in your life. It is good to see people doing good. I wish you the best in all your endeavors. I highly suggest learning self-hypnosis as well, because it will aid you as well. It is not a panacea, but it definitely make more of a difference. I have found that using meditation and self-hypnosis together works better than either one alone and many other believe the same as I do about this. Anyway, feel free to contact me on here, if you ever want some ideas for meditation exercises or self-hypnosis.

  4. Hi Sonya,
As always I enjoyed reading your blog post! Sorry to hear about your mom experiencing health difficulties. Prayerfully I’m sure she will be just fine. How did the walk/run go? Typically for me I tend to do better when there is a crowd or at least others participating with me or against me. Thank you for sharing throughout this course. Your posts have truly been an inspiration to me. Best wishes with all your future endeavors both personal and professional.

  7. Sonya,
I am so excited for you and your future. I can't wait to read about your on-going progress and all the things you plan on doing. I had the same attitude coming into this class about my health. I thought I was healthy because I wasn't sick, but I have so much to achieve and learn in order to be truly HEALTHY. But it's so exciting and all the steps that are required to get to this level of optimum health are so much fun. You seem to be really having fun, so that is great. I can tell your spiritual wellness is great. Enjoy your journey! It's been a pleasure.
